German Design Award for modernized GWH office in Kassel
Prestigious award for the extensively renovated GWH office in downtown Kassel
The striking façade design, created by Hammerschmidt Architects, was awarded the German Design Award in the "Excellence Architecture – Public" category in Frankfurt last week. Award winner and architectural firm managing director Christopher Hammerschmidt accepted the award at the Ambiente trade fair together with GWH CDO Christian Wedler.
Between 2023 and 2025, an eye-catching building with a three-dimensional, sand-colored facade and pioneering building technology will be constructed in a prominent location in Kassel. A special feature are the panels perforated with 220,000 holes, which ensure that light can enter the offices inside despite the closed facade surfaces. The specially designed photovoltaic system on the south facade of the ten-story building is the largest PV system integrated into a facade in the documenta city and provides a considerable portion of the building's own electricity needs.
