A press conference was held on Tuesday to present the joint Housing First project for the homeless.
On September 20, Elke Voitl, Head of Social Affairs for the City of Frankfurt, Michael Back from GWH Wohnungsgesellschaft mbH Hessen and Markus Eisele, a pastor at Diakonie, presented the Housing First project in Frankfurt-Sossenheim to numerous members of the press.
Based on its history, GWH Wohnungsgesellschaft sees itself as a social housing company that has always thought outside the box and made an active contribution to social cohesion, according to Michael Back from GWH.
With Housing First, we are closing the gap of unaffordable housing. As everyone has a basic right to housing, they should also have a secure home. Then comes the rest, such as a tenancy agreement.
12 former homeless people have already rented an apartment based on the tried-and-tested concept. Achim K., the first resident of the project, previously lived homeless for 30 years, mostly sleeping in cemeteries. For him, his 30 m² apartment is like "winning the lottery". And when the native of the Odenwald region of Germany tells of his feeling when he saw his name on the doorbell, it becomes clear to everyone involved: Housing First is a successful project.
Numerous TV stations were also on site to draw attention to the issue of homelessness and to present Housing First:
